More Common Core ‘politicizing‘ from Rep. Tricia Cotham.
She sat on the Common Core Legislative Research Committee, yet continues to ignore the reality of these flawed, experimental standards and the public outcry on Common Core. Instead, she insists on attempting to demonize the opposition.
During the debate of the bill (SB 812) to repeal and replace Common Core in North Carolina, State House Rep. Cotham (D-100) continued to politicize the vote by implying those opposed to Common Core also likely oppose Pres. Obama.
Cotham didn’t stop there. After it passed, she gave statements to the media which continued that theme:
Rep. Tricia Cotham, D-Mecklenburg, said repealing the rules is a solution in search of a problem, sends a bad signal and puts an unfair burden on schools, teachers and parents, who already invested and trained with Common Core.
“Why are we really doing this?” she said. “Is this really to better education or is this more political in nature? I worry that this is more political.” – AP Winston-Salem 7/16/14
Yes, it’s becoming political because you are making it so, Rep. Cotham. That’s not by accident either.
Reminder – Politicizing is a theme being used by Common Core Supporters. It is not unique to North Carolina, but part of a larger , well organized messaging campaign. Related Read: The Hunt Institute and YouTube Common Core Ads
