Last night on Hannity, a video tape of a speech Obama gave in 2007 was played via story put out by the Daily Caller that re-affirmed his close association with Reverend Jeremiah Wright and played the race card in epic style.
It struck me as I read the prepared transcript after viewing this portion of video how this could have been a speech given by Wright or even Sharpton or Jesse Jackson. (Link: VIDEO: Obama speech praises Wright, attacks feds on Katrina | The Daily Caller)
“The people down in New Orleans they don’t care about as much!” Obama shouts in the video, which was shot in June of 2007 at Hampton University in Virginia. By contrast, survivors of Sept. 11 and Hurricane Andrew received generous amounts of aid, Obama explains. The reason? Unlike residents of majority-black New Orleans, the federal government considers those victims “part of the American family.”
Page 2 of The Daily Caller:
“Now here’s the thing,” Obama continues, “when 9-11 happened in New York City, they waived the Stafford Act — said, ‘This is too serious a problem. We can’t expect New York City to rebuild on its own. Forget that dollar you gotta put in. Well, here’s ten dollars.’ And that was the right thing to do. When Hurricane Andrew struck in Florida, people said, ‘Look at this devastation. We don’t expect you to come up with y’own money, here. Here’s the money to rebuild. We’re not gonna wait for you to scratch it together — because you’re part of the American family.’”
That’s not, Obama says, what is happening in majority-black New Orleans. “What’s happening down in New Orleans? Where’s your dollar? Where’s your Stafford Act money?” Obama shouts, angry now. “Makes no sense! Tells me that somehow, the people down in New Orleans they don’t care about as much!”
In the video, Obama railed about the Katrina response as seen above, straying from his prepared remarks quite a bit. His tone, his speech, and enunciation are morphing as he speaks; Ann Coulter nailed it when she called it his ‘Urban Accent‘. I noticed in the speech that he didn’t bother to mention any of the other states or people affected by Katrina. They don’t fit the narrative.
He goes on to compare the responses to the LA riots and Katrina as being cut from the same racist cloth. Let’s just ignore that his claims in the speech regarding Katrina were inaccurate and look at the tone.
The whole speech is a long, winding rant emphasizing a divide instead of the ‘healing’ he later would espouse in his acceptance speech. This is supposed to be ‘post-racial’ America, right? Is the video shocking? Not to those of us who picked up on Obama’s associations with Wright back in 2008. It’s not shocking Obama said all these things, what is most shocking about it is the media’s omission of reporting on it. Please note, the media won’t play it that way and we know it. The spin cycle has already begun.
Mr. Liberty made the comment that CBS ran a story on it this morning playing up the race card side of the speech, but seemed to be using it as an attempt to stir the base and revive the 2008 enthusiasm. The CBS piece tries to pull in the Mother Jones “47%” video and repeats the lie that it hurt Romney in the polls. Yeah, that dead heat tie in those +7 to +13 Dem over-sampled polls… yeah that’s really Romney being hurt.
The DNC has already launched its own counter-attack of which we see CBS mimic.

Obama’s personal track record in Louisiana is hardly stellar. What I find also rather striking is the anger you see in Obama in that speech whereas he was too busy campaigning when New Orleans was hit again, this time by Isaac, choosing instead to show up three days after Romney. Let us not forget the President’s 12 day delay in visiting the gulf coast region after the BP spill, which ended up being a series of photo ops and more campaign-like sound bytes rather than action. (More: Obama schedules awesome oil spill photo op in the gulf for Friday )
The response from this administration was like amateur hour as oil continued to pump into the Gulf. Finally, they dispatched AG Holder to engage in some lawfare to distance themselves. Even now, this administration is using this distancing of themselves from the spill using their definition of transparency: stonewalling.
Obama’s record on disasters has been to do the minimum and usually with a bit of a delay and a bit of prompting from the Governors of various states. Unless you count Texas, where the enormous wildfires were refused emergency help and instead were used as the butt of a joke. Is this video important? Yep. There are a lot of people out there who didn’t even hear about Wright until recently. That’s a testament to the strength of the media’s bias out there. What is more important than this, however, is Benghazi-gate. This administration is engaged in a cover-up most can barely fathom. What this President has been doing abroad in the Middle East has to have the light kept on it. (See: Obama renews waiver on Child Soldiers)
Let’s keep our eye on the ball, people.
