In case you missed it, Michelle Goldberg spent some time the other morning comparing Ann Romney to Hitler and Stalin. Yes, Ann Romney. Again. Mother of 5 boys, breast cancer survivor and who is living with MS. That same one. The Right quickly descended on Ms. Goldberg and rightfully so. Her comments were out of line and hyperbolic to the point of absurdity. Goldberg’s statement from the show:
“You know, yes, motherhood is beautiful,” Goldberg continued. “I found that phrase ‘the crown of motherhood’ really kind of creepy, not just because of its, like, somewhat you know, I mean, it’s kind of usually really authoritarian societies that give out like The Cross of Motherhood, that give awards for big families. You know, Stalin did it, Hitler did it.”
You won’t find that quote in her Daily Beast Apolo-attack on Ann Romney though:
“For the record, I don’t believe that Ann Romney is either Hitleresque or Stalinesque. Rather, I think she is a calculating political wife who once struck me as fairly likeable, but who is now determined to play up the idea that’s she’s being victimized for being a stay-at-home mom.”
Ah, here we have the Hilary Rosen inspired moment.
Ms. Goldberg, you’re favorite exercise must be spin class. Here you try to fob off the idea that Mrs. Romney somehow started out or is now playing the victim of an idea concocted by one of your own comrades, Hilary Rosen. Rosen opened that door and Ann Romney is standing her ground. Well, that will never do! Better try to slap her down again, right? Much like every attempt Obama has made to slam Romney, this one is boomeranging right back at you.
“I’m truly sorry to have given the right a pretext for another tedious spasm of feigned outrage. I’m especially sorry if I’ve done anything to strengthen the conservative myth that liberals disdain motherhood.”
Nice job! Nothing says heartfelt apology like apologizing to the Left for getting called out on one’s own pathetic remarks.
As for the litany of ‘profane’ comments you received… Boo-freaking-hoo.
It’s so depressing to be at the subject of one of these idiotic teapot tempests. I’m going to try to stay off Twitter for a few days.

Perhaps you now know what it’s like to be a Conservative woman. Don’t worry, I am sure Obama will be calling you any time now to check if you’re alright. Cute attempt to refer to the Tea Party there too – make sure you get the most of that 140 characters. By the way, I checked your Twitter feed — yet to find said profanity, but lots of retweets from you where folks called on you to apologize and that perhaps you should lose your job. You might find that horribly offensive, but I would suggest you get some perspective. Oh… Be sure to include links next time!
For the record, I don’t believe you mean to apologize to Ann Romney, but rather cash in on a brief moment where you actually said what you really thought. I hope you relish the ‘glorious crown’ of duncedom you now wear.
