Official - Holder approved warrant for FOX reporter's emails

A law enforcement official has told NBC News that Attorney General Eric Holder is the one who signed the search warrant for the private emails of Fox News reporter James Rosen. The warrant was signed under the guise that Rosen might be a "possible co-consiprator" in violation of the Espionage Act.

The law enforcement official said Holder's approval of the Rosen search, in the spring of 2010, came after senior Justice officials concluded there was "probable cause" that Rosen's communications with his source, identified as intelligence analyst Stephen Kim, met the legal burden for such searches. "It was approved at the highest levels-- and I mean the highest," said the law enforcement official, who spoke on condition of anonymity. He said that explicitly included Holder.

*snip*

Holder, the man who signed the warrant for Rosen's private emails, will "convene" a group of media organizations to garner feedback and will report back to Obama by July 12.

Oh good. Baucus is leading the charge at the IRS and Holder on the AP phones/FOX emails. I'm sure they'll get right to the truth! Holy fox guarding the hen house, Batman! I have to re-state this point again, because frankly I'm stunned this actually came out of NBC:

The disclosure of the attorney general’s role came as President Barack Obama, in a major speech on his counterterrorism policy, said Holder had agreed to review Justice Department guidelines governing investigations that involve journalists. - NBC

Holder, who doesn't know ANYTHING according to his testimony, jumped up to launch an investigation into an investigation HE OK'd.

[youtube=http://youtu.be/4fCF_LiS4l4]

The Attorney General sat and lied to Congress.

Let that sink in.

Ready? O.k. - now today, Obama at his 'I need a distraction so GITMO or something' speech said this:

[youtube=http://youtu.be/bwkpbOWAw08]

I love at the 2 minute mark or so, he says 'we do not report someone or throw someone in prison in the absence of evidence.' Really? Continue reading →

This week, President Obama announced his intention to lift the ban on the transfer of prisoners from GITMO to Yemen.

President Obama will announce Thursday that the White House plans to lift the ban on sending detainees from Guantanamo Bay to Yemen, Fox News confirms, a move that could effectively resume efforts to close down the prison.

That effort, however, has been stymied because many countries don't want the detainees or are unwilling or unable to guarantee that once transferred, detainees who may continue to be a threat will not be released.

There are currently about 166 prisoners at Guantanamo, and 86 have been approved for transfer as long as security restrictions are met.

This week, the Pentagon asked Congress for more than $450 million for maintaining and upgrading the Guantanamo prison. More than 100 of the prisoners have launched a hunger strike to protest their indefinite detention, and the military earlier this month was force-feeding 30 of them to keep them from starving to death. Source: FOX news

The Wall Street Journal reporter Jason Leopold notes that the Obama administration intends to start with 30 non-Yemeni detainees. Hagel will have to approve any orders for release, but there's a reason Obama fought for him as the nominee and I've got a feeling this was part of the bigger picture. The Atlantic has some more background on this and hilariously links to ProPublica as a source.

I've written before about the problems with Obama's intention to release various terrorists of Yemeni origin from GITMO. Yemen has been a hotbed of activity lately, despite this administrations best efforts to prop up the government and its military with weapons and drones.

Last Fall, Breitbart pointed out that one of the attackers in Benghazi was believed to be a former GITMO detainee:

President Barack Obama is about to release or transfer 55 Gitmo prisoners, despite reports that the Libyan believed to be behind the killing of US Ambassador Christopher Stevens was a former Guantanamo inmate transferred to Libyan custody.

The large percentage of those scheduled to be released are Yemeni, according to a list made public by the Obama administration.

Obama stopped the release or transfer of Yemeni inmates in 2010, because the conditions in the country were viewed as too "unsettled" at the time.

Embedded in that snippet is the list of detainees being considered. Here at LL1885, we looked into some of their dossiers to see the threat assessment on them. From what we viewed, few of them seemingly have a threat assessment worthy of release; most had medium to high risk assessments.

For example, the last one on the release list is Belckacem Bensayah ISN 10001 with a threat assessment of HIGH risk to the US and its allies as well as being a HIGH intelligence value detainee; he has an extensive list of terrorist activities and known associations to Al Qaeda (begins on page 5): Continue reading →

Open Letter to America:

Call me a monster if you wish, I am quite large after all. Funny how when no one is paying attention to how appearances can change. Anyhow, thought I would drop you a note with just a taste of what I have done, what I can do, and what I may do. Keep it on the down low, but I gotta tell ya....I am your worst nightmare.

Here is my resume..

I can go after your beliefs, and your traditions. Nothing will be sacred to me. I will make you to "see it my way" because "it's for you own good" oh, and if you don't, I will attack you, belittle you, shame you. You are in the way.

You can speak out about me if you want, however, be careful, because I can hear everything you say. I am everywhere. Don't think for a moment that my true believers wont root you out. Don't speak against me.

If you dissent, or oppose me, (do you really want to go there?) I can send out my minions to degrade you, smear you, and discredit you . You will be considered the lowest of human beings. It is in my best interest that I do this. Then, if you continue to defy me, I may keep you from having any platform for you to speak on. You will have no way of getting out any of your views. I will make sure of that. I will take away your ability to learn anything of value. I can make your life a living hell. I will silence you.

This is a little story of what happens when Liberals attack on Twitter. Mind you, this has happened before but this time they took aim at my kids as a means of trying to get me to be quite. So...Earlier today I was treated to how territorial liberals are over the hashtag #NCpol and how desperate they are to keep it one big incestuous link around.

Full disclosure - It started with a tweet I didn't tag correctly with an MT instead of an RT. I tweeted an acknowledgement to the original complaining party, however that wasn't good enough. Someone else decided I was going to be a pet project:

RT @jeannebonds4nc: @gwfrink3 introduce her to @timothypeck and report her. They both take RT and lie.@ladyliberty1885

    — Tim Peck (@timothypeck) May 21, 2013

Soon enough, I had people not even involved insulting me, attacking my choice to protect my kids by writing anonymously and in general wanting me to shut up and go away:

RT @jeannebonds4nc: @chadcnance @ladyliberty1885 the is the third time in 3 weeks a Mom is worried @ her kids so is anon. Answer:don't tweet

    — LL1885 (@LadyLiberty1885) May 21, 2013

    I'm sorry, @jeannebonds4nc how are you involved with my mis-RT/MT of @gwfrink3 ?I've already noted the error and tweeted it. #GrowUp — LL1885 (@LadyLiberty1885) May 21, 2013

She never did answer that. Instead, the person in question, one @JeanneBonds4NC, spammed me, with help from pal @ChadCNance, and then threatened to report me for bothering her. Turns out after spamming me and with me not taking it lying down, she decided to let me know she had indeed reported me.

    @ladyliberty1885 do you understand English?Reported. — Jeanne MillikenBonds (@JeanneBonds4NC) May 21, 2013

    Keeps threatening/insulting me instead of blocking me => RT @jeannebonds4nc: @ladyliberty1885 do you understand English?Reported. — LL1885 (@LadyLiberty1885) May 21, 2013

Anyone following the tweet progression can see she beset on me and not the other way around. And these people wonder why some of us write anonymously - if they behave like this on Twitter, imagine face to face? @ChadCNance is a big man with 75 followers who has had death threats and yet still jumps into conversations online of which have nothing to do with him. Yeah, I'll take his advice right to the bank.

@ladyliberty1885 @jeannebonds4nc - That is a fairly lame excuse. I've gotten death threats for articles. Here I am with my name hanging out.

    — Chad C Nance (@ChadCNance) May 21, 2013

Yes, there you are with your name hanging out. Good for you! Cookie? I'm not doubting he may have received threats - who knows who stalks a man with 75 Twitter followers - but I don't see him blogging about Unions, Jihad or Occupy. Groups which have given my email box a who new set of disgusting and disturbing new terms.

This is how the Left rolls - mocking someone for protecting their kids.

Pardon me, but I write under a pen name to protect my family, it makes me no less valid than someone writing out in the open. My kids deserve better than the biased drivel put out in the media today and if I have to write under a pen name to fight it, so be it. Your family should always be the priority.

A bit of irony from @JeanneBonds4NC's timeline around the same time she was spam tweeting me:

Funny thing about twitter. Folks jump in conversations w/o reading all @ caste judgment. #refrain

    — Jeanne MillikenBonds (@JeanneBonds4NC) May 21, 2013

How does the story end? Well, I'm not leaving. Figure it out. Continue reading →

Sometimes a few tweets can bring serious matters into focus:

Paging @americavotes & #BlueprintNC partners. "Operation Destroy @myncsenate Budget" meeting @ 9 am. goo.gl/1Tb93 #ncga #ncpol

— RealLiberalHack(@LiberalHack) May 20, 2013

Hey, remember BluePrint NC and America Votes? Hey, look at all the crazy demonstrations going on downtown with all these groups that are buddies with BluePrint and America Votes. It's all coincidence, I'm sure. It seems Twitter user @LiberalHack hasn't forgotten and sent out this tweet this morning.

By the way, the link in the tweet goes here: AJ Fletcher Foundation. It's the little details like that which matter. To explain a bit, the AJ Fletcher Foundation is founded and run by Jim Goodmon, the owner of Capital Broadcasting group who in turn runs local news outlet WRAL. The AJ Fletcher foundation gave a wad of cash to BluePrint NC (more below). This is the same WRAL who decided to start a 'Promise Tracker' on McCrory, but didn't have the 'technology' do set one up for Bev Perdue:

Note: WRAL responded to my public tweet with a private Direct Message.

The AJ Fletcher Foundation is the same outfit who claimed they had nothing do to with BluePrint NC's attack memo citing the 'evisceration' and 'crippling' of the opposition. Even BluePrint NC tried to dodge ownership. Also recall that the AJ Fletcher Foundation gave over $35,000 to BluePrint NC. Via Civitas:

The WRAL reporter left out the very deep connections WRAL has with BlueprintNC through its owner Jim Goodmon, donations and former employees. The AJ Fletcher Foundation has given $35,000 to BlueprintNC and $380,000 to the NC Justice Center which initially housed BlueprintNC when it was formed (the foundations 990 IRS reports are not current so there may be more) . The Goodmon family which owns WRAL has 4 family members on the board of the Fletcher Foundation including Barbara the President and Jim the chairman of the board. The Executive Director was formerly the head of the NC center for Voter Education, one of the original members of BlueprintNC. In addition Chris Fitzsimon, former WRAL reporter, is head of the liberal NC Policy Watch, the original lead attack group in the Blueprint coalition. Fitzsimon is also provided free airtime on Goodmon owned WRAL-FM from which he launches daily attacks on political opponents. The Fletcher Foundation has been a long time funder of Policy Watch is now housed in the Justice Center.

Well, America Votes finally owned up to the memo to take the heat off of BluePrint NC, but the damage was already done and there was zero apologies made:

The leader of a political nonprofit group came forward Wednesday as the author of a leaked strategy memo on how to attack Gov. Pat McCrory and Republican leaders.

Jessica Laurenz, the North Carolina director for America Votes, said she wrote and distributed the draft memo – not Blueprint North Carolina, a Raleigh group being blamed for crafting the plan to “eviscerate the (Republican) leadership and weaken their ability to govern.”

In an interview, Laurenz defended the memo saying “America Votes has not done anything wrong or out of the ordinary” and didn’t regret “strongly urging my colleagues to fight for what we believe in.”

The memo, leaked to reporters last week as a document originating from Blueprint, was first reported by The Charlotte Observer – an article which ran in this newspaper. The story was quickly pounced upon by Republicans. McCrory called the memo shameful.” House Speaker Thom Tillis used it as a fundraising appeal. The N.C. Republican Party registered complaints with the Internal Revenue Service and the state elections board, asking both to investigate Blueprint for political activity outside its charitable status.

Who authored the memo is central to any potential inquiry. America Votes is allowed to participate in political efforts as a 501(c)4 nonprofit under federal tax law. But Blueprint North Carolina is limited to issue-advocacy and barred from political campaign activities as a 501(c)3 nonprofit. Both are tax exempt organizations but only donations to 501(c)3 groups are tax deductible.

It looks like BluePrint NC's talking points memo pal, America Votes, is taking fire and whoops, Senator Kay Hagan is in the mix:

More information became public on May 17th regarding the case against Ricin letter suspect James Everett Dutschke. According to documents filed in District Court, the records of three cell phones that belong to Dutschke and his wife are being looked into. It appears this is in response to the evasive actions taken by Dutschke between April 24 and April 25 to elude the FBI prior to his arrest on April 27.

In the early hours of the 24th while under surveillance, the FBI observed Dutschke and his wife visiting two separate banks withdrawing cash from both at 3:30 am. Upon returning to their residence, Dutschke got out of his van and waved to the agents. However, while the agents moved their vehicles to reposition them, Dutschke had jumped back into his van and left the scene. His movements and actions were unaccounted for the next 12 hours. The van was later found at Dutschke's martial arts studio later the next afternoon.

Approximately at 8:00pm on the 24th, Dutschke was observed getting into the truck owned by Kirk Kitchens - a friend of Dutschke's. Dutschke crouched in the back seat and, according to WTVA and the Djournal, he then covered himself with blankets. Kitchens then drove around for two hours taking "evasive routes", according to court records. The pair drove only 22 miles outside of Tupelo to Kitchens parent's home near Mantachie. Agents state that they never saw Dutschke leave that home. However, according to the Djournal, "Kitchens helped him slip out the back door, through the woods and to a rendezvous point where someone else picked him up." His movements until later in the afternoon have yet to be accounted for.

Records indicate that James Dutschke was located in Ashland, Mississippi at 1:45 pm on April 25, some 70 miles away. It is not known at the present time who drove him to this location. When Kirk Kitchens was asked about the incident he said, "I just helped him get out of the spotlight," - Source DJournal.

Where was Dutschke during this unaccounted for time? Who was the mystery person that he met in the woods? Could this be the connection to the two sets of DNA that were found on the dust mask? Updates will be posted as they come in. Continue reading →

In the North Carolina General Assembly this week, HB 695 was passed by a vote of 69-42. The bill is entitled 'Foreign Laws/Protect Constitutional Rights'. The long title is 'An act to protect rights and privileges granted under the United States and North Carolina Constitutions in the application of foreign law'. In short, the bill states that the laws of the United States and North Carolina supersede that of foreign law introduced into the court system. For deeper detail, read the full text of HB 695. The bill now heads to the Senate for consideration.

There was a bit of mocking done regarding this bill by local media and on Twitter. Sharia, Islamic law, was automatically assigned to the bill in coverage of it, even though the term does not appear in the text. It was a reasonable assumption though, since multiple states have passed similar legislation and the target was to block Sharia law. I don't know that I would have run with that as the title, like Laura Leslie of WRAL did:

BREAKING NEWS: The Obama Administration knew a full five months before the 2012 election that the IRS was targeting Tea Party Groups. This revelation comes from the New York Times via Breitbart

June 2012: The Treasury Department’s inspector general told senior Treasury officials in June 2012 he was investigating the Internal Revenue Service’s screening of politically active organizations seeking tax exemptions, disclosing for the first time on Friday that Obama administration officials were aware of the matter during the presidential campaign year.

Incredible. It would seem this administration sat on it during an election year. What would the election have looked like had this information come out? Likely very different.

Could it be possible that the catalyst for the targeting began with the Tea Party organizations in Senator Max Baucus' Montana?

Montana Shrugged, one such organization, was starting to be quite the "nuisance" to Senator Baucus as early as March of 2010. Mind you, the Citizens United case had just been heard and decided on two weeks prior to Montana Shrugged holding demonstrations in Montana. Citizens United drew the ire of President Obama, who during the State of the Union, called out the Justices displaying his disapproval with the decision. Another organization getting under Max Baucus' skin at this time was American Tradition Partnership, who was working directly with a few Montana Tea Party Organizations.

Bear in mind that Senator Baucus is the Senate Finance Committee Chairman and has taken up the charge to get to the bottom of this scandal. Baucus also sits on the Joint Committee on Taxation. Baucus himself has warned there will be more revelations:

"I have a hunch that a lot more is going to come out, frankly. It's broader than the current focus. And I think it's important that we have the hearings, and I think that will encourage other information to come out that has not yet come out. I suspect that we will learn more in the next several days, maybe the next couple three weeks which adds more context to all of this."

Source: Washington Examiner

Ever hear of the man who was being run out of town? He raced to the front and pretended he was leading a parade. The same analogy might fit here, but time will tell.

Here is a timeline of possible events as they may have unfolded starting with the creation of the Tea Party and ending with the IRS IG report.

April 15, 2009: Tea Party protest

May 2009: Obama jokes about IRS audits in a commencement speech at ASU.

September 2009: Tea Party groups and 9/12 projects start filing for tax exempt status

January 21, 2010: Supreme Court rules on Citizens United case.

March 1 2010 American Tradition Partnership sets up shop in Montana with Baucus in its sites and continued to do so.

March 2010: Ten Tea Party cases identified as targeted. (TIGTA appendix)

April 29 2010: Max Baucus gives a press release regarding new campaign finance reform titled the Disclose act which was drafted in direct response to the Citizens United decision. Its co-sponsors were Senators Charles E. Schumer (D-NY), Russ Feingold (D-WI), Ron Wyden (D-OR), Evan Bayh (D-IN) and Al Franken (D-MN).

August 27 2010: Austen Goolsbee lets it slip that he has access to Koch Brothers Tax structure

September 23 2010: A letter is sent to J. Russell George Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration regarding the possible illegal accessing and disclosure of confidential taxpayer information specifically the tax structure of Koch Industries, Inc

September 28 2010: J. Russell George Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration sends a letter acknowledging receipt of Senator Grassley's letter regarding the possible accessing of tax information of the Koch Brothers. A review had been ordered however, the letter ended with

"As you are aware, there are certain constraints on my ability to share information from our review with you in the absence of a request from the Chairman of the Committee on Finance."
(Max Baucus)

September 28th 2010: Sen. Max Baucus sends letter to Commissioner of the IRS, Doug Shulman. The letter asks for the IRS to look into 501(c)(4), (c)(5) and (c)(6) groups.

October 6, 2010: NY Times article, 'Republicans see a political motive in IRS audits'. The article describes Republican charges that a Senior Obama official inappropriately accessed the tax records of Koch Industries. It also mentions Republicans are upset over an audit proposed by Senator Max Baucus into the activities of tax exempt groups.

October 6th, 2010: Republicans respond to the Baucus letter.

March 12, 2012: 7 Democrat Senators - Schumer, Bennett, Whitehouse, Merkley, Udall, Shaheen, Franken - send letter to Commissioner of the IRS Doug Shulman. Letter stated they want the IRS to look specifically into Conservative 'social welfare groups' and 501(c)3's.

June 2012: Obama administration has knowledge of IRS inappropriately targeting conservative groups. Remember: President Obama said he just head this news last Friday.

June 18, 2012: Senator Max Baucus visits the White House. All details of the visit are missing from the White House Visitor Logs.

April 23, 2013: Senator Baucus announces retirement. Baucus claims personal and not political reasons.

May 14, 2013: IG report comes out. Note: On page 43, there is a letter from Joseph Grant thanking the Inspector General for giving him a copy of the IG's draft report in advance of it being published. The received stamp on the letter is April, 30th. That is just one week after Senator Baucus announced his retirement. It is entirely possible as a member of the Ways and Means committee that the Senator was privy to this advanced report.

May 10, 2013: Unsolicted 'apology' comes out of the IRS for targeting Conservatives.

May 15, 2013: Steve Miller resigns as Acting Director of IRS. Miller was set to depart in June anyway.

May 16, 2013: Joseph Grant announced retirement from Tax Exempt and Government Entities division of the IRS.

May 17, 2013: Steve Miller testifies in front of the Ways and Means committee. Miller's overall theme in answers in this testimony is 'I don't know who is responsible'.

In February of this year, I wrote about the Romeike family from Germany who were seeking asylum in the United States. They were being persecuted for homeschooling their children by the government in Germany and were in danger of losing their children should they be forced to return to their home country. Opening from my previous post: Holder's DOJ: 'No Fundamental Right To Homeschool'

Eric Holder is the most corrupt and slippery AG in our nations history. His DOJ has sued states, pollsters and businesses across the board, but nothing as flat-out Constitution violating as their next possible target: Homeschoolers. Caffeinated Thoughts has the story which stems from an asylum case filed by a Germany family, the Romeike’s, being persecuted for homeschooling. (Read: Romeike DOJ Merits Brief)

Excerpt from Caffeinated Thoughts:

…There are two major portions of constitutional rights of citizens—fundamental liberties and equal protection. The U.S. Attorney General has said this about homeschooling. There is no fundamental liberty to homeschool. So long as a government bans homeschooling broadly and equally, there is no violation of your rights. This is a view which gives some acknowledgement to the principle of equal protection but which entirely jettisons the concept of fundamental liberties.

Choosing the type education for one’s own child is pretty much one of the most basic fundamental rights any parent has. What this position says to me is that in the education ‘reforms’ we are going to be handed down by this President in his second term, homeschooling will be a moving target.

Fast forward to this week.

The family now faces this danger as the United States DOJ has denied their request for asylum. Todd Starnes reports at TownHall:

The U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the Obama Administration’s decision to deny asylum to a German homeschooling family.

The Romeike family fled their German homeland in 2008 seeking political asylum in the United States – where they hoped to home school their children. Instead, the Obama administration wants the evangelical Christian family deported.

An Immigration judge granted them asylum in 2010 after the family revealed they were facing criminal prosecution for homeschooling their children. That decision was later overturned by the Board of Immigration Appeals in 2012.

The court ruled today that the Romeikes had not made a sufficient case and that the United States has not opened its doors to every victim of unfair treatment.

“Congress might have written the immigration laws to grant a safe haven to people living elsewhere in the world who face government strictures the United States Constitution prohibits,” the court ruled. “But it did not.”

It would seem the courts did not feel the threat of the government in Germany potentially seizing this family's children was a big enough red line of persecution. All of this despite families from Germany in the past receiving asylum on the same grounds as the Romeike's. Starnes continues, emphasis added:

The court did rule that parents do have a right to direct the education and upbringing of their children. However, they refused to concede that the harsh treatment of religiously motivated homeschoolers in Germany amounts to persecution within our laws.

“Germany continues to persecute homeschoolers,” said Mike Donnelly, the HSLDA’s director of international affairs. “The court ignored mountains of evidence that homeschoolers are harshly fined and that custody of their children is gravely threatened—something most people would call persecution. This is what the Romeikes will suffer if they are sent back to Germany.”

The Justice Dept. is arguing that German law banning home schooling does not violate the family’s human rights.

“They are trying to send a family back to Germany where they would certainly lose custody of their children,” Farris told Fox News. “Our government is siding with Germany.”

Farris said the Germans ban home schools because “they don’t want to have religious and philosophical minorities in their country.”

“That means they don’t want to have significant numbers of people who think differently than what the government thinks,” he said. “It’s an incredibly dangerous assertion that people can’t think in a way that the government doesn’t approve of.”

In a nutshell: Citizen, you will do and think as you are told.

One has to take pause here and consider what is happening right now with education in this country and the Common Core Standards. These standards are essentially a stealth take over by the federal government of our schools under the guise of 'higher standards' and yoked to federal money in the form of stimulus dollars. Those 'higher standards' really translate to 'everyone does it the same'. In effect, making sure the populace is educated the same, thinks the same and does what the standards tell them to -- all guided by the governments hand. Note, that doesn't touch the issues with data mining that are a serious issue in Common Core.

Homeschooling is also under assault in this country. Common Core Standards are leading the way to try to extinguish the rising numbers of parents making the choice to homeschool by invading textbooks used by homeschoolers and requiring the curriculum be taught in order to pass the standardized tests associated with it. Mind you, the curriculum is load heavy, leaving little room for parents in infuse real learning into their child's education at home.

Further down in the article, this section frankly made the hair rise on the back of my neck as it mirrors what we are seeing in our schools right now. Emphasis added is mine.:

“If we go back to Germany we know that we would be prosecuted and it is very likely the Social Services authorities would take our children from us,” he said.

Uwe said German schools were teaching children to disrespect authority figures and used graphic words to describe sexual relations. He said the state believed children must be “socialized.”

“The German schools teach against our Christian values,” he said. “Our children know that we home school following our convictions and that we are in God’s hands. They understand that we are doing this for their best – and they love the life we are living in America on our small farm.”

Let's break that down:

"teaching children to disrespect authority figures" or sometimes the opposite.
"used graphic words to describe sexual relations"
"children must be socialized"
"The German schools teach against our Christian values" or the government violates it.
All of these things are already woven into our schools today. Bearing in mind the disposition of this DOJ that homeschooling is not a 'fundamental right' and that they have just rejected asylum for a family fleeing persecution for homeschooling, how sure are we that here in the United States who homeschool won't be persecuted by this DOJ and administration? Given the current political and education climate, I'd say all bets are off. Continue reading →

Yesterday I highlighted the ongoing Democrat and Liberal Meltdown here in North Carolina brought on by changes to legislation being made by the Republican majority General Assembly.

The list included a variety of increasing instances of 'new tone' and just downright crudeness. I also mentioned that Planned Parenthood in NC was pushing for protests and action against HB 730 and greatly misrepresented what the bill really said. Sister Toldjah elaborates on the misrepresentation and feminist freak out that went on:

It’s sorta like the Sandra Fluke manufactured “controversy” over “access” to birth control mixing with the religious exemptions issue – except on a local scale, with narcissistic North Carolina “feminists” in the starring role(s). Via the Raleigh News and Observer:

RALEIGH — A bill allowing private employers to refuse to cover contraception in their health insurance plans cleared a House committee Wednesday morning and is headed for a vote of the full chamber.

The legislation would also prohibit coverage for abortions in the new state health insurance exchange that is part of the federal Affordable Care Act, and through the plans cities and counties offer their workers. It also says any health-care provider can refuse to participate in abortions; current law protects doctors and nurses.

The bill is off to a rocky start, as Republicans in a House judiciary committee were not unified in supporting it. Rep. Bob Steinburg, a freshman Republican from Edenton who described himself as a hardcore abortion opponent, said he would only support the bill if the prohibition on contraception coverage was removed.

“It’s almost like we’re stepping back in time,” Steinburg said. “To suggest in the 21st century that women would be prevented from having access to birth control – even as far to the right as I am – is going off the cliff. This is going too far.”

Wellllll, I hope Steinburg’s constituents give him a piece of their mind on his feminist-themed criticism, which greatly misrepresented what the bill actually called for – giving employers the right to EXCLUDE from their health care insurance plans coverage for BC purchases (and abortions). It did not “restrict access.” It just changed who pays for it – not the insurer, but YOU. A self-described staunch pro-lifer shouldn’t be using left wing talking points to advance his argument one way or the other. Perhaps Rep. Steinburg is confused. I dunno.

Indeed. Read the whole thing. The summary and conclusions are pretty spot on.Don't miss the portion on Rev. Emma Akpan and the commentary Sister Toldjah provides. Nailed it!

Those protesting certainly tried to turn a mole hill into a mountain. WRAL this morning echoed a bit of the foot-stamping:

CONTRACEPTION AND ABORTION: Wednesday morning, the House Judiciary A Committee passed a measure that would have allowed virtually any employer to limit contraception coverage in their employee health plans. Currently, only employers with certain religious affiliations can make such exceptions.

Around 10 p.m. Wednesday, lawmakers stripped the contraception provision out of the bill when it was heard on the House floor. The measure still makes several changes to abortion-related laws. Among the changes, cities and counties would not be able to offer health plans to their employees with abortion coverage. And health plans created by the health exchanges set up by the Affordable Care Act would similarly be unable to offer coverage for elective abortion procedures under the House bill. The measure must be debated and voted a final time today before it heads to the state Senate.

I think the changes here probably had less to do with protests and more to do with Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina possibly interceding on grounds such changes would be burdensome to their business and entanglements with Obamacare.

Sister Toldjah also spotted some photos of the protesters that I spied myself on Huffington Post early this morning. Funnily enough, local media didn't run with the picture - which was taken by Planned Parenthood, naturally. I can't blame them, it's fairly embarrassing and runs with the childish theme of recent protests: Continue reading →
