The Chik-Fil-A Drive Thru abuser, Adam Smith, decided perhaps Rachel was owed an apology. The first half of the video is an apology, the second half (beyond the 3:55 mark) is about explaining why he did the video.
Around the 3:40 mark, he discusses why he made the “I’m not gay” comment on the video. Mr. Smith says you don’t have to be gay to stand up for gay rights. He also doesn’t understand gay rights are not being violated by Chik-Fil-A. His apology to Rachel is sincere, but he doesn’t come close to copping to his own hypocrisy. One does not necessarily have to be anti-gay in order to believe in Christian values or traditional marriage.
Mr. Smith still hasn’t done his homework. Chik-Fil-A’s core message is promoting Family. They pursue sponsoring things that follow that core message. The good work that Chik-Fil-A do on their own and what Winshape does both here at home and globally are, of course, ignored. Smith lists two of the alleged “anti-gay groups” at the beginning of the video. He lists Exodus International and The American Family Association.
Chik-Fil-A gave $1,000 to Exodus, clearly a Christian faith-based group with all the beliefs you would expect. That’s not a huge amount to be upset over first of all. Second, the big “anti-gay” part of Exodus International is the part of their site where they try to help people dealing with or struggling with their own homosexuality with counseling of multiple types. Apparently, this makes Exodus anti-gay.
American Family Association:
The American Family Association (AFA) is a501(c)(3) non-profit organization that promotes conservative and fundamentalist Christian values. Look at their site and make your own call. Frankly, there is nothing really surprising there, but perhaps over the top. Their activism mirrors that of the LGBT. The fact remains however, that Chik-Fil-A has not given money to AFA. Chik-Fil-A did sponsor a program called ‘All Pro Dad’. That program was run by a group that apparently was affiliated with American Family Association. That was enough for Equality Matters to attach them to Chik-Fil-A as funding “anti-gay” groups.
Guilt by association is all that matters to Leftist skewed outfits like Equality Matters and The Southern Poverty Law Center. All they need is one link, no matter if it’s by six degrees of separation, in order to slap on the desired “anti-whatever” label and then trot it out to incite outrage and try to stamp out any idea contrary to their narratives. Actually it’s even less than that. All that these groups need to slap the “anti-gay” label on them is for them to believe in heterosexuality.
This manufactured issue being perpetuated by the media and loud mouthed Leftist groups is just another well-timed distraction. The attack on Chik-Fil-A is actually a revival of a year old distraction orchestrated by the LGBT arm of Media Matters and disseminated by Left-centric sites like Huffington Post.
Freedom of expression, not gay rights, was what was under attack here. Attempting to silence that expression was clearly rebuked.
