In The Morning Links on 10/5, I wrote a snippet about the cost of FLOTUS’s trip to Africa that I thought needed repeating. Especially after seeing Michelle jaunt around Target in designer clothes to buy lysol or something and tripping over the media who conveniently was there to catch her being an ‘every woman':
$432,142: The cost of Michelle’s family safari trip to taxpayers…and that’s just the plane, Secret Service detail and in-flight meals. Lodging is not included, but we know she stayed at least most of her trip at the Table Bay Hotel. The priciest rooms they offer (Superior Suites) go for 35,870.40 Rands, which when converted to dollars is $4,415,63 a night per room. She had 16 traveling with her, giving her the benefit of the doubt that she put the rest in regular rooms at $3,579.13 a night and they stayed for 7 nights. That give us $375,808.65 for guest rooms and $30,909.41 for her and Sasha’s suite for a total of $406, 718.06. Now add that to the $432,142 and we have a grand total of $838,860.06. I’m sure they probably got some souvenirs too.
This wasn’t her only jet-set holiday on our dime.
Estimates she spent $10 million on private vacations:
” The First Lady is believed to have taken 42 days of holiday in the past year, including a $375,000 break in Spain and a four-day ski trip to Vail, Colorado, where she spent $2,000 a night on a suite at the Sebastian hotel. And the first family’s nine-day stay in Martha’s Vineyard is also proving costly, with rental of the Blue Heron Farm property alone costing an estimated $50,000 a week. “
While the MSM in the United States is flat out ignoring Michelle and her spending, across the pond they are not. The Telegraph UK had this to say yesterday:
“Although ignored by most of America’s liberal-dominated media, several online US news sites are reporting that Michelle Obama’s grand tour of southern Africa earlier this year cost American taxpayers nearly half a million dollars – and that’s just for the flights.”
